Transforming Global Education

Kambia is a program of the international nonprofit organization, Global Brigades. For the last 20 years, we have been creating global learning experiences for nearly one hundred thousand students to build their skills while making real world impact. Students work alongside our on-the-ground teams and partner communities abroad to address real-world health and economic challenges, making a tangible difference in the world.

Our Alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda.

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

A Holistic View

Kambia uniquely implements a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably evolving to a relationship of monitoring and guidance.

The Empowered 1M initiative is our bold commitment to empower one million individuals to achieve healthier, more prosperous lives. We invest alongside communities, not only financial resources but also expertise, passionate volunteers, and innovative technology to drive community-led initiatives in healthcare, public health, and financial inclusion. Our focus on sustainable livelihoods – those that are resilient, offer long-term viability, and create opportunities to thrive – is key to breaking the cycle of poverty, promoting environmental responsibility, and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our Diverse Methodology

Experiential Learning Programs

We have engaged nearly 100,000 students in our health and economic development programs over the last 20 years. Students contribute to a Donation Goal to participate, which not only funds the project logistics, but year round work.

Donors & Grants

As an established international development organization, we have attracted institutional grantors and individual / family donors that contribute directly to the implementation of our holistic model in communities. Since most of our overhead is covered through facilitating education programs, we are able to be extremely efficient to utilize extra funds for the delivery of healthcare, economic development or WASH projects.

Partners

In every country we work in, we forge partnerships directly with numerous government and non-government actors to foster local ownership of each project. Finding common ground in our respective missions and models allows us, and our partners, to benefit mutually from each other’s contributions to our partner communities, accelerating impact.
